Mindful
leaders are present & focused – handy qualities for tackling tough
performance talks |
|||
|
Lots of us aren’t all that crash-hot
when it comes to conducting conversations about performance – especially with
difficult performers. Despite our best intentions, we struggle with
delivering hard messages or say things that get staff off-side – they get
defensive and either retreat or retaliate… Whether you’re dealing with
a diligent or difficult performer, do you want to find ways to make
performance conversations a bit more worthwhile, meaningful and constructive
for both of you? As a leader, it’s up to you to set the right tone, apply the
right kind of pressure and still stay connected and make it safe for staff to
engage in the process, if you want to get results and resolve issues. You
can still join us to learn tools, tips & techniques that can help you
tackle tricky
performance talks with more poise and emotional balance Positive Performance Conversations works
on a simple principle: focus on the positives you want to see, not the
negatives you don’t. It gives you a step-by-step tour of
carefully-crafted footings, frameworks and formulas to deal more competently
and comfortably with difficult performers and make hard performance
conversations a little bit easier. You’ll
learn how to:
·
Tackle tough
performance conversations in more positive ways
·
Structure –
your conversation better with our 5 Footings and Frameworks model
·
Start conversations
on a firm but neutral footing
·
Deliver difficult
feedback that is more ‘sayable’ and ‘hearable’
·
‘De-vague’ –
be more specific in the way you dissect performance issues
·
Handle defensiveness –
anxiety and other high-pitched emotions
·
Anticipate – objections,
excuses, justifications and downplays
·
Level –
say what performance you need and why they need it too
·
Reframe – put
negative performance issues across positively
·
Stay Focused –
keep it on track, clear, frank and fact-based
·
Coach to find solutions –
get commitment to goals and actions
“Thought provoking and
practical. This program demonstrated real steps that lead towards building
performance. Good visual examples, clear explanations, and tool-practice
activities all helped my learning. Thank you Bill, for delivering a tangible
and engaging program that was timely, relevant and extremely practical.”

Building on our work in the areas of Personal Mastery, Compassionate Leadership
and Conversational Coaching over the past 10 years Mindful Leadership in Action looks at what it means to lead mindfully. It takes a practical,
every-day approach to introducing simple brain-training tools and helps
leaders identify ways to incorporate the mental disciplines of
presence, awareness and focused attention into their everyday activities,
minus formal meditation. Neuroscience discoveries show even a few minutes of mindfulness exercise
a day can change our brain for the better and help leaders tap into their
inner-space to find a haven of clarity, calm and focus in a maze of
confusion, uncertainty, conflicting priorities and unrelenting stress. [more in our Mindfulness Article] If you’re looking for ways to put in a peak performance at work without
sacrificing your sanity, humanity and well-being, our Mindful Leadership in Action 1-day clinic
provides a useful starter-platform to help you re-think and re-invigorate
your leadership. You’ll learn how to

Those who’ve been along to my programs previously know that I try to
provide a relaxed, safe and comfortable learning environment to try out new concepts
and tools – and these programs continue that tradition. I’d be delighted to
welcome you or some of your other colleagues at one of these minds-on
