Perils of performance conversations.
Let’s face it - lots of us aren’t all that crash-hot when it comes to
conducting conversations with difficult performers. We say things that disable
the discussion and raise defensiveness even more. We monopolise the
conversation and turn what should be a two-way talk into one-way traffic. We
get staff off-side by putting things in negative ways rather than focus on
the positive performance we want to encourage. Positive Performance Conversations works
on a simple principle: focus on the positives you want to see, not the
negatives you don’t. As a leader, it’s up to you to set the right tone,
apply the right kind of pressure and still stay connected and make it safe
for staff to engage in the process, if you want to get results and resolve
issues. If they feel blamed, ticked-off or troubled by how the conversation’s
going, people quickly disengage and either retreat or retaliate. Join
us to learn tools, tips & techniques that can help you tackle tricky
performance talks with more poise and emotional balance |

Positive Performance Conversations provides
crucial scaffolding for you to plan, prepare and carry-through talks with reluctant
performers. Our 5 Footings and Frameworks Model helps you to focus
less on what's wrong and more on what’s expected; to create a different
emotional climate that enables you to give difficult feedback in constructive
ways, and keep defensiveness at bay so they hear what you have to say and
heed your help. Dealing with poor
performance is one of the most commonly avoided species of difficult
discussions. This 1-day coaching clinic
gives you a step-by-step tour of carefully-crafted formulas to help deal with
difficult performers more competently and comfortably and make hard
performance conversations a little bit easier. In this practical clinic you’ll
learn how to: ·
Tackle
tough performance conversations in more positive ways ·
Structure –
your conversation better with our 5 Footings and Frameworks model ·
Start conversations on a
firm but neutral footing ·

anxiety and other high-pitched emotions ·

objections, excuses, justifications and downplays ·

you need and why they need it too ·

better. Complete a Positive Performance Conversations Scorecard

game-plan to deal with difficult performance conversations more positively. “I wanted more
positive outcomes and after attending this training on tools to conduct
difficult performance conversations with staff, I feel better prepared. Very
well presented, very informative and well-structured, focusing on critical
frameworks to apply for better results.” Alex Burt, Mackay
Regional Council Is
this right for you? This clinic is for leaders at any level
who want to improve the way they handle performance conversations. It’s
particularly relevant for those who get anxious, irritated or defensive
confronting poor performers or those who want to take a more constructive,
solutions-focused approach. While the focus is mainly on difficult
performers, many principles and tools in Positive Performance
Conversations can also be used to coach, support and encourage good
performers too. “Along
with the Dealing with Difficult Discussions course which I did earlier,
this was one of the most useful courses I’ve ever attended. I learnt a
lot I could readily apply and tools that of real practical assistance in an
area I’ve previously struggled with. Having the self-coaching guide is
fantastic – it is something I know I will go back to in order to consolidate
and build on concepts I now have an idea about.” Vanessa
