Performance
Paranoia? Performance conversations can be a terrifying ordeal. Whether
you’re a solid performer or someone who struggles a bit, we can often turn up
feeling uneasy, anxious or a bit defensive.
Most performance
conversations training is for leaders. But to work
well, performance conversations should be two-way. Managers may play the lead-role in initiating and
engaging staff, but let’s not forget the other key
player. While it’s up to leaders to make it safe for staff to engage
and talk frankly, it’s also up to staff to approach performance conversations
in constructive and positive ways to identify things that enable them to do
their job better and grow. That way, everyone wins. |

Let’s Level the Playing Field Performance

Making Performance Conversations Work for You – A
half-day Session to level the playing field by helping staff understand what a good
performance conversation should be like and equipping them with tools to
engage more competently and positively in the process. Sessions are based on 12 Positive Performance
Conversations Pointers that
match up with the footings and frameworks we cover with those doing the
leader version of this workshop (see below). Whether attending a
morning or afternoon Session, your Staff will: ü Engage
more constructively in performance conversations ü Find
out what they can do to make them work better ü Learn
how to prepare and plan better for them ü Keep
them two-way and make sure managers don’t monopolise ü Control anxiety,
stave-off defensive urges and focus on facts ü Cope
better with getting difficult or uncomfortable feedback ü Take
a positive, future-focused solution-based approach to performance issues
ü Develop a
personal plan to better handle performance conversations |

Positive Performance Conversations Leaders’ Clinic… Whether
you’re dealing with a diligent or difficult performer, if
you want to get results and make performance conversations more positive,
practical and productive for both of you, this workshop helps by equipping
you with effective verbal formulas and frameworks to more carefully craft
your approach, give difficult feedback in constructive ways, keep
defensiveness at bay so they hear what you have to say and help
you over potential hurdles that loom-up in tricky performance conversations. “I
learnt a lot in ‘Positive Performance Conversations’ that I can readily apply…
tools of real practical assistance in an area I’ve previously struggled
with…and the self-coaching guide is fantastic. It’s one of the most useful
courses I’ve ever attended.” Vanessa R. Queensland
Health Cover crucial scaffolding to help you plan and prepare.
Take a tour of carefully-crafted formulas to conduct talks with reluctant
performers more competently and learn how to: · Structure
your conversation better with our 5 Footings and Frameworks
model · Start conversations
on a firm but neutral footing · Deliver difficult
feedback that is more ‘sayable’ and ‘hearable’ · ‘De-vague’ –
be more specific in the way you dissect performance issues · Handle
defensiveness – anxiety and other high-pitched emotions · Level – say
what performance you need and why they need it too · Reframe –
put negative performance issues across positively · Stay
Focused – keep it on track, clear, frank and fact-based ·
Coach to find solutions –
get commitment to goals and actions “Thought
provoking and practical. This program demonstrated real steps that lead
towards building performance. Good visual examples, clear explanations, and
tool-practice activities all helped my learning. Thank you Bill, for
delivering a tangible and engaging program that was timely, relevant and
extremely practical.” Trish K, USQ |
