“Really beneficial in every aspect of your role and I strongly
encourage others to attend. This course is fantastic to improve your
skills in managing staff for positive outcomes. You’ll get a lot out of
it. I’ve used the tools already and they really work! We haven’t stopped
talking about it since we’ve been and we’re progressing much better with
handling conflict.”
Kelly Hodgman, Electricity & Water Ombudsman Qld
What’s this about?
Dealing with difficult discussions is rarely in anyone’s job description
yet coping with contentious conversations is something we all need to
learn how to do better. They cause so much conflict and workplace stress.
Poorly handled or avoided, they detract from performance and erode work
relationships. Trust deteriorates, misunderstandings multiply,
productivity plummets and teams turn toxic.
Dealing with Difficult Discussions
takes you on a memorable journey through our unique
7-stage model with robust,
easy-to-use tools to help you navigate your way through troublesome topics
more confidently and practise a methodical, step-by-step approach to
resolve differences constructively.
Over 2 days we’ll unpack what’s really going on when talk becomes tense
and feelings get fractious and try out tools you can use to prepare
yourself for taking the heat out of hard talks.
In a safe environment aimed at building your confidence and your
conversation toolkit
you’ll learn how to:
·
Decipher
the dynamics of difficult discussions
·
Work out
what’s going wrong in your difficult discussions
·
Identify
common mistakes we make & how to avoid them
·
Rehearse
our unique 7-stage model for difficult discussions
·
Raise
tough topics without raising so much defensiveness
·
Reduce
tension & take the heat out of difficult moments
·
Face up
to feelings – core of difficult discussions
·
Use
formulas to beat discussion blockers like blame
·
Deal
more confidently with difficult conversations
·
Start and finish
well to resolve issues and repair relationships
“Extremely informative. I wanted to be able to construct and
hold difficult discussions without offending or putting people offside and
this clinic provided me with a high level of self-awareness in relation to
my own behaviours I can apply to both professional and private life.
Scenarios you gave helped to put a lot into context and the methods you
use are great. Thanks again, the workshop was really helpful!”
Nicole Spencer, Community Housing organisation
