leading change, dealing with difficult discussions, building better teams, or
coping constructively with complaints, the essential actions we all take

Positive PERFORMANCE Conversations BRISBANE: Aug 27 Oct 30 TOOWOOMBA: Oct
31 HERVEY BAY: Nov 5
“A quality, ‘value for money’ day - well-prepared
and presented, jam-packed with information and interaction and chances to
reflect on practice. We were provided with an abundance of resources to use
before, during and after which are greatly appreciated .”
Alison Forster, St Mary’s Catholic College, Cairns What’s this about? Tackling
poor performance, as most leaders will tell you, is one of the most commonly
avoided and widely feared species of difficult discussion. Organisations are
packed with performance management guidelines and hand-books, yet there’s
scant help on how to come to grips with the conversational side. Positive performance
conversations work on a simple principle: focus on future positive
performance rather than past negatives. This 2-day clinic (1 day in
selected regions) takes you on a step-by-step tour of carefully-crafted
footings, frameworks and formulas to deal with difficult performers more
competently and comfortably and make hard performance conversations easier. Topics
we touch on include: ·
Structuring –
the 5 Footings and Frameworks to follow ·
‘De-vaguing’ –
being specific about dissecting performance issues ·
Handling defensiveness -
anxiety and other high-pitched emotions ·
Giving Feedback – that
is clear, frank and fact-based ·
Anticipating –
objections, excuses, justifications and downplays ·
Levelling –
saying what you need and why they need it too ·
Reframing –
putting negative performance issues across positively ·
Focusing –
keeping on track and finding solutions ·
Coaching –
getting commitment to goals and actions “Along with the Dealing with Difficult Discussions course which I did earlier, this was one of the most
useful courses I’ve ever attended. I learnt a lot I could readily apply
and tools that of real practical assistance in an area I’ve previously
struggled with. Having the self-coaching guide is fantastic – it is something
I know I will go back to in order to consolidate and build on concepts I now have an idea about.”
Vanessa Richardson,
Darling Downs Hospital & Health Service Dealing with DIFFICULT DISCUSSIONS: BRISBANE: Sept
17-18, Nov 28-29 HERVEY BAY: Oct 15-16 TOOWOOMBA: Nov 26-27
“Really beneficial and I strongly encourage others
to attend. You will get a lot out of it. Thanks to you I’m progressing much
better in the area of handling conflict. This course is fantastic to improve
your skills in managing staff for positive outcomes. I ‘ve used the tools
already and they really work!”
Kelly Hodgman, Electricity &
Water Ombudsman Queensland What’s this about? Challenging,
confronting or contentious conversations are something everyone can learn to
handle better. Join us as we take a tour along our 7-Stage Roadmap for taking the heat
out of hard talks and unpack what’s really going on when talk becomes tense
and feelings get fractious. Dealing with Difficult Discussions equips you with robust
easy-to-use tools to navigate your way through those troublesome moments more
confidently. Practise a more methodical, controlled and step-by-step approach
to grasp the dynamics behind difficult discussions and convert destructive
confrontation into constructive conversations. Topics we cover help
you: ·
Decipher the dynamics of
difficult discussions and use this to structure your talk ·
Identify common mistakes we
make when talks gets tough and how to avoid them ·
Start a difficult discussion more
decisively without raising as much defensiveness ·
See the 3-part structure of
all difficult discussions ·
Try out tips to defuse difficult
moments ·
Learn conversational formulas to
beat blockers like intentions, blame & assumptions ·
Face up to feelings –
the core of difficult discussions – and use them constructively ·
Rehearse our unique 7-stage model for
dealing with difficult discussions “A very worthwhile, engaging program that was very relevant to
me. I wanted to feel better equipped to handle difficult discussions and it
helped me identify stages and common mistakes we all fall into when involved
in them. It was very well presented, well-paced and very enjoyable with
clear and useful tools”
