Performance conversations can be a terrifying ordeal for many of us. Whether you’re a solid performer or someone who sometimes struggles, we often turn up feeling uneasy, anxious or a bit defensive, even if we know there’s no need. You’d think this paranoia only pertains to poor performers – but even high performers can tend to shy away from them.  And managers can feel ill-equipped or under-prepared too… especially if they feel the conversation is going to be a bit testy or touchy.

Ideally, appraising performance is aimed at helping you lift your game where it’s needed and expanding into new frontiers.  But talking to your boss about how you’re going can be uncomfortable – you may feel guarded, defensive or on-edge, even if you think you’re doing pretty well!

Performance appraisals don’t need to be daunting though – you can learn ways to overcome any natural dislike for them so you can feel more in control and approach performance conversations in constructive and positive ways. Half-day Sessions for STAFF…   Most performance conversations training is for leaders. But to work well, performance conversations should be two-way. These half-day sessions attempt to level the playing field by helping staff understand what a good performance conversation should be like, and equipping them with tools to engage more positively and constructively in the process.

Sessions are based around 12 Positive Performance Conversations Pointers that are compatible with a footings and frameworks model we cover with leaders doing our leaders’ version of this program…   Staff will:

ü  Engage more constructively in performance conversations

ü  Find out what they can do to make them work better

ü  Learn how to prepare & plan better for them

ü  Keep them two-way & make sure managers don’t monopolise

ü  Control anxiety, stave-off defensive urges and focus on facts
