“An extremely powerful session and catalyst for great things that can occur within our own facilities. How we do things and why we do things needs to be brought back to a basic level – our perception versus patient perception – putting the patient first and developing a model of care that is patient-focussed and no longer just systems and task focused. I’m  working on a model of care for my staff and this has given me so many resources and motivation to get it up and running.” Amanda B – DON

What’s this about? The concept of ‘putting patients at the centre of all we do’ is one of 6 key values in Queensland’s Blueprint for Better Healthcare. Taking a more Patient-First approach can enhance clinical outcomes, patient-safety, satisfaction and relationships, performance, productivity, and lead to more caring, connected and compassionate cultures.  It can also contribute significantly to stress-relief amongst health-carers.

This 1-day clinic centres on 5 essential principles to help get people on the same page about putting patients first – to know what it means, what it looks like, and most of all, give you tools and formulas to do it more mindfully and consistently. You’ll learn how to:

·         Put the 5 PPF Principles into practice in ways that benefit you and your patients

·         Practise ways to refresh and replenish your natural patient-first approach

·         Improve the professionalism and humanity of your patient interactions

·         Be more present for patients and more mindful of how you come across

·         Connect more positively with patients and boost your own well-being

·         Apply formulas to cultivate more caring, connecting and compassion

·         Bring your best-self to work and handle difficult patients moments better

·         Lessen your stress, manage your moods and stay more emotionally balanced

“An informative day making you think about the choices you make – whether to be present and how you approach and treat patients and colleagues. A ‘light bulb’ moment was mindfulness and the decision we make regarding our attitude to patients. It made me more aware of how to approach particular staff members who do not treat patients ‘kindly’ at times – reminding them that this is a choice they make and they can choose another way. I have resolved to be more present, purposely set aside other thoughts, take on the principles of PPF and make these our focus.” Heidi J – NUM
